Cardinals Sweep Frostburg State
CUA has a solid weekend in the pool
WASHINGTON- The Catholic University swim teams posted strong performances over a busy two-day period. On Friday evening the women's squad defeated Juniata 75-16 but lost to Randolph-Macon 56-38. On Saturday both the men and the women beat Frostburg State. The women won 99-54 while the men came out with the 104-78 victory.
On Friday, Lauren Wood (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) had a big evening for the Cards winning the 50 free (25.82) and the 100 free (56.63) as well as swimming leg on the first place 200 medley relay team which finished in a time of 1:57.90. Also on the medley squad was Katelyn Kenny (Estell Manor, N.J./Holy Spirit), Lisa Brooks (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) and Krystal Dole (Corbin, Ky./Model) who all posted good performances. Brooks finished first in the 200 breast with a 2:34.43 and second in the 400 IM swimming to a 5:03.19. Dole also had a winning swim in the 100 free posting a 58.46 and was third in the 200 free with a 2:07.79. Rounding it out was Kenny who was second in the 200 back (2:23.21) and third in the 200 fly (2:32.21).
The women kept it up on Saturday as they posted a number of top finishes. Wood won the 200 IM in a time of 2:21.21 as well as the 100 breast with a 1:12.36. Kenny, Brooks and Dole each a first of their own in the 100 fly (1:05.84), 200 free (2:09.76) and the 100 free (58.06). Other top performances included Solongo Erdenekhuyag (Rockville, Md./Rockville) with a first in the 100 back in a time of 1:06.69 and a second in the 50 free posting a 27.45 as well as Mary Connelly (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) who won the 50 free with a 26.77.
Dan Finnegan (Philadelphia, Pa./Archibishop Ryan) and Sean Murphy (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) led the men's squad with a pair of firsts each. Finnegan won the 200 free with a 1:54.71 and the 100 back swimming a 1:00.28. Murphy was victorious in the 200 IM (2:10.95) as well as the 100 free (52.76). Also winning an event was Luke Miller (State College, Pa./) who was first in the 100 breast with a 1:06.08 and Brian Jones (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) who won the 50 free clocking in at 23.26.
The Cardinals will travel to Susquehanna next Saturday for their third conference meet of the season.
