Swimmers Sweep Goucher in Dual Meet
Cards pick up their first dual wins of the season
TOWSON, Md. - The Catholic University men's and women's swim teams made a statement in their first-ever Landmark Conference dual meet on Saturday. The women defeated Goucher 121-84, while the men won 101-53 in a successful day for both squads.
The women were led by Lisa Brooks (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) who had two first place finishes on the day in the 200 IM (2:24.05) and the 100 breast (1:12.71). Lauren Wood (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) also had a solid day taking first in the 200 free in a time of 2:07.52 and second in the 100 fly with a 1:05.36. Wood was part of the winning 400 free relay which came in at 3:57.52. The relay was made up of some other top performers including Krystal Dole (Corbin, Ky./Model) who was first in the 100 free (58.44) and third in the 50 free (26.46) as well as Samantha McClellan (Union Town, Ohio/St. Thomas) who took first in the 50 free (26.35). Katie Bates (Staten Island, N.Y./Curtis) rounded out first place finishes leading in the 1000 free with a 12:30.60 and placing second in the 500 free posting a 6:07.90.
The men had eight first place finishes for the day with Brian Jones (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) scoring three of them. Jones was the top performer in the 200 free (1:51.98), 100 free (51.26) and part of the 400 free relay which finished first in a time of 3:37.01. Brian Shelton (Annadale, N.J./North Hunterdon) posted a pair of top performances for the meet swimming to a 2:13.22 in the 200 IM and a 1:06.10 in the 100 breast. Dan Finnegan (Philadelphia, Pa./Archibishop Ryan) had a good day with a first in the 50 free (23.67) and Sean Murphy (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) took the top spot in the 100 fly (58.30). Rounding it out was James Nolan (Vass, N.C./Terry Sanford) who won the 100 back in a time of 1:05.48.
The Cardinals will be back in the DuFour Center pool on Friday when they host Juniata and Randolph-Macon at 6 p.m.
