Eagles Drop Cardinals in Dual Meet
CUA to host Senior Day on Saturday

FREDERICKSBURG, Va.- The Catholic University men's and women's swim teams had a tough dual meet Saturday against the University of Mary Washington Eagles. The men's team fell 125-71 while the women were defeated 135-61 for the UMW sweep.
Despite the loss a number of male swimmers put together strong performances for the Cardinals. Dan Finnegan (Philadelphia, Pa./Archibishop Ryan) had two second place finishes one in the 200 free (1:57.52) and the other in the 100 free (51.74). Brian Jones (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) had a similar day for CUA with a second in the 50 free swimming a 23.32 and the same finish in the 100 back with a 58.82. Two swimmers notched a pair of thirds on the day. Brian Shelton (Annadale, N.J./North Hunterdon) was third in both the 50 free (24.24) and the 500 free (5:14.41) while Andrew Kalna (Stafford, Va./Mother of Divine Grace) did the same in the 200 IM with a 2:14.91 and the 100 fly swimming to a 1:00.34.
For the women, Helene Nicoletti (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) had a solid day with a pair of thirds. She swam a 2:07.51 in the 200 free and a 58.73 in the 100 free. Katelyn Kenny (Estell Manor, N.J./Holy Spirit) was the lone second for CUA in a race featuring both squads. She swam a 1:05.71 in the 100 back. Senior Samantha McClellan (Union Town, Ohio/St. Thomas) also had a good race in the 50 free taking third with a 26.53.
The Cardinals will host Salisbury on Saturday in their final dual meet of the season before the Landmark Conference championship. Saturday will also be Senior Day for the two squads.
