Sea Gulls Sink Cards on Senior Day
CUA prepares for Landmark Conference meet
WASHINGTON - The Catholic University men's and women's swim teams were both defeated in a non-conference dual meet against former CAC rival Salisbury University. CUA's senior day was spoiled by the Seagulls with a sweep of the home teams. The men lost 141-120 while the women were defeated 159-102.
For the men, Brian Jones (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield) led the squad with three first place finishes for the meet. Jones was the top finisher in the 200 free (1:52.19), the 100 free (51.66) and the 500 free (5:08.64). Dan Finnegan (Philadelphia, Pa./Archibishop Ryan) was another Card to garner first place honors. Finnegan took first in the 100 back with a 59.50 and was also second in the 200 back swimming a 2:12.08. Sean Murphy (North Attleboro, Mass./Bishop Feehan) also had a first and a second on the afternoon to round out the day for CUA. Murphy was number one in the 200 fly finishing in 2:08.75 and came in the second in the 100 fly clocking a 58.45.
On the women's side, Lauren Wood (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) and Lisa Brooks (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) each notched a pair of firsts for the Cards. Wood took the top spot in the 50 free (26.37), the 100 free (57.58) and was second in the 100 fly (1:04.20). Brooks won both the 100 breast with a 1:11.61 and the 200 breast swimming a 2:38.62. Katelyn Kenny (Estell Manor, N.J./Holy Spirit) had a solid day for the Cards taking first in the 200 back clocking in at 2:19.82 and finishing second in the 200 fly with a 2:27.00. Krystal Dole (Corbin, Ky./Model) also scored some points for CUA with second place finishes in the 200 free (2:06.36) and the 50 free (26.68).
The Cardinals now have almost two weeks to prepare for the Landmark Conference Championship meet February 15-17 at the United States Merchant Marine Academy.
