Men's and Women's Swimming teams lose to Scranton

SCRANTON, PA-- Despite a strong effort by many Catholic swimmers, the men's swim team suffered a Landmark Conference loss to the University of Scranton Royals. The final score was 118-88.
Senior Reif Foust (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) led the Cardinals today with three wins. Individually, he won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.58 seconds and the 100 yard backstroke in a time of 56.60 seconds. He also swam the first leg of the 400 yard freestyle relay which finished in a time of 3:22.17, which was a full second then the second place team from Scranton. Also on the relay team were junior Kevin Cravedi (Bethesda, Md./Good Counsel), freshman Brendan Reilly (Alexandria, VA./Bishop Ireton), and sophomore Brian Jones (Brookfield, Conn./Brookfield).
Also coming in first for the Cardinals was Sophomore John Caldwell (Thornwood, N.Y./Iona Prep). In the 1650 yard freestyle, he touched the wall with a time of 18:42.69, 27 seconds faster than the second place finisher. Pacing Catholic were Cravedi, Jones, and sophomore Luke Miller (State College, Pa./State High) who all had two second place finishes on the day.
On the women's side, a 115-83 score, in favor of Scranton, was the first setback in the Landmark Conference for the Cardinals.
Sophomore Lisa Brooks (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) led the Cardinals with a win in the 100 yard freestyle. Her time of 1:08.9 was nearly four seconds faster than the closest competitor. Also finishing first for the Cardinals, with a time of 4:08.70, was the 400 yard freestyle relay team made up of junior Katie Blemmings (Langhorne, Pa./Notre Dame), senior Kellie Dunn, freshman Hillary Gabbard (Wilmington, DE/Padawa Academy), and junior Helene Nicoletti (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield).
Sophomore Mary Connelly (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) had a strong day in the pool for Catholic, finishing with three second places. Also pacing the Cardinals were senior Krystal Dole (Corbin, Ky./Model) and freshman Katherine Kelly (Spring Lake, N.J./Manasquan), who each had two second place finishes.
The Cardinals return to the pool for a home Landmark Conference contest against USMMA tomorrow, January 18th at 1:00 p.m
