Brooks Takes Two as CUA Performs Strong at Championships

Taking two individual events, Lisa Brooks helped lead the CUA women's swimming team to third place overall with 333.50 points, while the men's side finished fifth with 133 points.

Lisa Brooks was the story of the weekend for the Cardinals, as she entered the 200 yard breaststroke with the highest seed (2:29.87) and then destroyed her previous mark not once, but twice. In the prelims of the race, she cut over two seconds off the time with a mark of 2:27.69. In the finals it was all Brooks as she again cut over two seconds off of that previous season best with a time of 2:25.55 to take the conference title. 

In addition to the 200 yard event, Brooks also won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.92 cutting nearly one second off of her seeding time. With her prelim time of 1:06.63 she hit a NCAA-B time for both the 100 and 200 yard events.

Kristen Gunn as well as Melanie Rebecci put in solid performances for the Cards. Gunn finished fourth in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.42 while Rebecci finished fourth in the B-Final in the 200 yard individual medley (10th overall) with a time of 2:22.54.  Brooks finished fourth overall in the 200 yard IM with a time of 2:19.46.

On the men's side, Kevin Cravedi finished sixth in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.62 while Chris Gervais finished eighth overall (second in the B-Final) with a time of 2:17.96.

CUA's women's team also performed well in the relays, netting three third place finishes. Brooks, along with Rose Buckley, Mary Kate Connelly and Helene Nicoletti finished with a time of 1:44.31 in the 200 yard freestyle relay. In the 400 yard medley relay Rachel Berry joined with Buckley, Brooks and Gunn for a time of 4:09.58 while in the 200 yard medley relay Nicoletti replaced Buckley for a time of 1:54.14.
