Several strong individual showings highlight meet at St. Mary's

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The CUA swim teams traveled to St. Mary's on Friday evening and were led by Caleb Capozella on the men's side and Joanna Ladas on the women's side with three wins each.  In the process, Ladas set the school record in the 1000 free.

On the men's side CUA won the 200 medley relay as the team of Capozella, Luke Miller, Pat Flannery and Dominic Grillo crossed in a time of 1:41.93.  CUA also won the 200 freestyle relay as Stephen Gill, Brian Jones, Sam Johnson and Brendan Place crossed in 1:33.72.

Individually, Capozella won the 200 IM after finishing in 2:00.43 and he also took first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 55.74. 

Other CUA men that stood out were Flannery in the 100 butterfly, which he won with a time of 54.63 seconds, and Justin Kenyon (10:26.69) and Zack Hutton (10:58.06), who went one-two in the 1000 free.

Ladas led the women with three individual wins, including in the 1000 free where she set the CUA record with a time of 10:46.89.  She also won the 200 free with a time of 2:00.37 and the 500 free as she finished in 5:18.34.

In the 100 butterfly, Gabrielle Giambagno and Rachel Berry crossed in second and third, respectively, within one second of each other, while Shannon Silsby won the 100 breaststroke as she crossed in 1:04.63.  Lisa Brooks was also a first place finisher for CUA with a time of 1:09.42 in the 100 breaststroke.

CUA returns to action on Saturday as the Cardinals host Goucher in Landmark Conference action.  Start time is set for 1:00.
