10/31/2007

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America volleyball squad (20-14, 5-1 Landmark) has placed two players on the All-Landmark Conference team which was released Wednesday afternoon.  Additionally, the CUA coaches were named the Landmark Staff of the Year by their colleagues after taking the Cardinals from the fifth spot in the preseason poll to the second seed in the tournament.

Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria) was one of three outside hitters named to the first team and the only Cardinal on the squad of seven.  Nassib has led the Cards all season in a majority of categories.  She ranks first in kills with 471 as well as digs with 467, Nassib also has 34 aces and 31 blocks on the season.  In the Landmark she is first in both kills and points.  The sophomore was named conference player of the week after the Susquehanna Tournament and has earned all-tourney at two events this past season.  As a freshman she was named to the All-CAC second team.

Setter Emily McGlynn (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) was placed on the All-Landmark second team for her efforts this past year.  The senior captain is leading the squad and the Landmark in assists with 1,205.  She is also first on the team in aces with 83 and third in the conference.  McGlynn was named Landmark Athlete of the Week after CUA's first weekend of conference play as the Cards went 3-0.  This is her second nod to the all-conference squad after leading CUA in kills her freshman year.

Head Coach Nagy Abdelrazek and his assistant Jamie Hudzik were honored as the Staff of the Year marking Abdelrazek's fifth coaching honor.  He was named the CAC Coach of the Year in 1994, 1999, 2000 and 2001.  In his 14th season Abdelrazek has had two NCAA Tournament appearances.  Hudzik is a first-year assistant who joined the team after playing at Elizabethtown.

The second-seeded Cardinals open up Landmark Conference Tournament play tonight as they take on #3 Scranton in a match at the DuFour Center beginning at 6 p.m.
