Volleyball Places Two on All-Landmark Team
The Catholic University of America volleyball squad (20-14, 5-1 Landmark) has placed two players on the All-Landmark Conference team which was released Wednesday afternoon. Additionally, the CUA coaches were named the Landmark Staff of the Year by their colleagues after taking the Cardinals from the fifth spot in the preseason poll to the second seed in the tournament.

Royals Eliminate Cards from Landmark Postseason
The Catholic University volleyball squad (20-15) dropped a tough 3-0 match the University of Scranton Royals (25-10) Wednesday evening at the DuFour Center. The second-seeded Cardinals had defeated Scranton earlier this season in conference play but couldn’t pull out the win at home.

Bison Down Cardinals 3-1
The Catholic University volleyball team (20-13) fell to the Gallaudet Bison (22-9) Tuesday evening at the DuFour Center. The Cardinals won the first game but were defeated in the final three to make the score 3-1.

Nassib Earns Athlete of the Week Honors
Sophomore outside hitter Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria) has been named the Landmark Conference volleyball Athlete of the Week after an outstanding seven-day run. The Catholic University of America volleyball team went 4-1 over the past week including three wins at the Susquehanna Invitational. For the season the squad is 20-12 and as clinched the second seed in the conference tournament.

CUA Finishes 3-1 at Susquehanna
The Catholic University volleyball squad had a successful weekend at the Susquehanna Invitational Friday and Saturday. The Cardinals went 3-1 over the two-day tourney and improved to 20-12 for the season. Sophomore Carey Anne Nassib was selected to the all-tournament squad.

Catholic University women’s volleyball team (17-11) defeated the Marymount Saints 3-0 Tuesday evening in Arlington. Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) had a big match for the Cardinals notching 22 kills and leading them to the victory.

Cards Split at FSU
The Catholic University women’s volleyball squad split at Frostburg State University on Saturday. The Cardinals defeated Penn State-Behrend but fell to the host Bobcats in the second match of the day. The two games bring CUA’s season record to 16-11.

Volleyball Nets Marlins in 3-0 Victory
The Catholic University volleyball team (15-10) defeated the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins (14-8) Tuesday evening at the DuFour Center. The Cards won in three games to improve to 15-10 on the season.

Cardinals Clinch #2 Seed at Final Landmark Weekend
The Catholic University volleyball squad (14-10, 5-1) clinched the second seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament by going 2-1 over the weekend in the final two days of conference play. CUA will have a few weeks before returning for a conference tournament weekend which will determine the conference champion.

Cards Down Blazers in Five
The Catholic University volleyball team (12-8) continued their strong play Monday evening with a 3-2 win over the Hood Blazers (2-15). The game marked the third time the squads have met this season with the Cardinals holding a 3-0 advantage in the series.

CUA Defeats Washington and Villa Julie
After a tough loss to Randolph-Macon on Monday, the Catholic University volleyball team (11-8) regrouped to go 2-0 on Saturday at Washington College. The Cards handily beat Villa Julie (12-6) and the host Sailors (6-10) to improve to 11-8 for the season. CUA lost just one game the entire day on its way to winning six of its last seven matches.

Yellow Jackets Edge Cards in Five
The Catholic University volleyball team (9-7) lost to the Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets (7-4) Monday night by a close 3-2 decision. During the two and a half hour marathon, every point seemed to be the difference-maker but in the end the Cards came up just short.

McGlynn Named Landmark Athlete of the Week
Catholic University senior volleyball player Emily McGlynn (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) has been named the Landmark Conference Volleyball Player of the Week. McGlynn, a four-year starting setter for the Cards, helped CUA to a 3-0 record over this past weekend’s conference play. CUA was 4-0 for the week which included a three-game victory over Hood.

Volleyball Undefeated in Landmark Conference
The Catholic University volleyball team (10-7, 3-0 Landmark) went 3-0 this past weekend in Landmark Conference matches. The new conference implemented a volleyball format where all of the member schools meet on two different weekends during the season at one location to get in league matches. With these three straight wins, it makes the Cards alone in second place as Juniata is in first going 4-0 on the weekend.

Volleyball Battles Blazers to 3-0 Victory
After a long weekend tournament the Catholic University volleyball team was back in action on Monday night at the DuFour Center. The squad beat the Hood Blazers (2-11) 3-0 to improve to 6-7 for the season. Hood managed to keep it close for much of the match, but every game the Cards were able to find a way to win.

Cards Host Guetle Invitational at DuFour Center
The Catholic University volleyball team (5-7) hosted its annual Guetle Invitational Saturday at the DuFour Center. CUA went 1-2 on the day while the University of Mary Washington won the event. Sophomore Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and freshman Mary Kate Gardner (San Francisco, Calif./Sacred Heart Cathedral Prep) were both voted to the all-tournament team for their outstanding performance throughout the day.

The Catholic University volleyball team (4-5) split over the weekend at the Gettysburg Invitational. In pool play on Friday the Cards were a dismal 0-2 but CUA rebounded on Saturday to get two wins to improve to 4-5 on the season.

Volleyball Drops Match to Seahawks
The Catholic University women’s volleyball squad (2-3) dropped a 3-1 decision to the St. Mary’s Seahawks Wednesday evening in Maryland. The Cards won the first game but struggled in the next two and were finished off in the fourth contest. The loss drops the squad to 2-3 on the season.

Cards Split in Season Opener
The Catholic University women’s volleyball team (2-2) went 2-2 at the Haverford Tournament to start their 2007 season. On Saturday the Cards defeated Landmark Conference-foe Susquehanna before falling to Neumann. On Sunday they split including a win over St. Anselm.

Cards Picked Fifth in Landmark Poll
The Juniata College women’s volleyball team has earned the top spot in the Landmark Conference women’s volleyball preseason poll. The poll was conducted by the seven institutions that sponsor volleyball in the newly-formed conference with both the volleyball coaches and sports information directors being polled. Juniata held the top spot with 60 points while the University of Scranton held the second spot Catholic University was chosen fifth overall

CUA Falls in Close Match with St. Mary’s
The Catholic University of America volleyball team (17-19) was eliminated from the CAC tournament Tuesday afternoon in a heartbreaking fashion. The Cards fought back against the St. Mary’s Seahawks (19-9) coming back from a 2-0 deficit to lose 3-1 advancing the Seahawks to the semifinals versus Marymount.

Cardinal Teams Gear Up for CAC Tournament
This weekend marks the beginning of a pressure-filled time of year for the Catholic University fall athletic teams. Women’s soccer, men’s soccer, field hockey and volleyball will all begin the CAC Tournament, a single-elimination play-off that will not only determine the conference champion but will also crown the winner who will receive the CAC’s automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.

In their regular season finale the Catholic University volleyball team (17-18, 4-3 CAC) dropped three games to Gallaudet to lose the match. This was a critical contest for conference tournament seeding since the Cardinals and Bison had been tied for third.

Nassib Named CAC Athlete of the Week
The Catholic University of America outside hitter Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) has been named the Capitol Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 22. The freshman had strong games at the Susquehanna tournament and also played a key role in CUA’s conference win over St. Mary’s last week which put the Cards in a two-way tie for third place.

CUA Splits at Susquehanna Invitational
The Catholic University of America women’s volleyball team (17-17) went 2-2 at the Susquehanna Invitational this past Friday and Saturday. Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria) and Emily McGlynn (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) were both named to the all-tournament squad after outstanding matches. Nassib ended the tourney with 37 kills and a team-high 81 digs playing all the way around. Setter McGlynn had 142 assists and eight kills over two days.

Cards Fly Past Seahawks in 4-1 CAC Thriller
On the very night honoring her, Whitney Dachelet (Anniston, Ala./Donoho) led the CUA women’s volleyball team (15-15, 4-2) to a gripping 4-1 win over the St. Mary’s College Seahawks (14-7, 2-3 CAC). The senior hitter had 22 kills including six in the final game. The contest was an important win for the Cards who are now alone in third place in the CAC.

Marlins Drop Cardinals In Five Games
The CUA volleyball team handily beat the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins in two games Saturday afternoon at the DuFour Center. Unfortunately, the squad couldn’t pull out one more victory to get the win over the visiting Marlins. Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) and Kilah Fox (Philadelphia, Pa./Merion Mercy) both led the team with 15 kills but their efforts were not enough.

Catholic University volleyball (14-14, 3-2 CAC) won a well-fought battle with the Mary Washington Eagles (11-8, 0-5 CAC) Wednesday evening at the DuFour Center by a 3-0 decision. The Cardinals started out on top in all three games and didn’t relinquish the lead for the remainder.

Cardinals Fall to #12 Emory
Catholic University volleyball (13-14) played the #12 Emory Eagles (14-7) closely Monday afternoon at the DuFour Center. Despite three tight games, the Cardinals eventually lost 3-0. Senior Whitney Dachelet (Aniston, Ala./Donoho) had a team-high 17 kills for the match which is one less than her season high of 18 that came against Messiah at the CUA Guetle Invitational.

Cardinals Win One at Gallaudet Tourney
Catholic University volleyball (13-13) played at Gallaudet’s tournament over the weekend. The Cardinals started strong the on second day of the tournament against Allegheny. Whitney Dachelet (Aniston, Ala./Donoho) led the effort with 11 kills in that game. The Cardinals came close to other victories, but ended the tournament 1-3.

CUA volleyball (12-10, 2-2) the Goucher Gophers Tuesday evening in Townson, Md. This improved the Cardinals to .500 in the CAC. Freshman middle hitter Kathryn Fischer (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin Durham Hall) had a big game for the Cards with 12 kills.

CUA Volleyball improved to 11-10 for the season with two wins at the Washington College Invitational Saturday in Chestertown, Md. The team saw big performances from both Kilah Fox (Philadelphia, Pa./Merion Mercy) and Kathryn Fischer(St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) at the net to take home the two victories.

Catholic University volleyball (9-9, 1-1 CAC) held off the Frostburg State Bobcats (6-11) in three games Tuesday evening at the DuFour Center to move back to even for the season. A tough Bobcat squad continuously beat themselves and the Cards were able to capitalize on the errors.

Catholic University volleyball (7-6, 1-1 CAC) dominated the Salisbury Sea Gulls (9-5, 1-1 CAC) Wednesday evening in a 3-0 victory marking their first is conference play. The Cardinals handily beat Salisbury 30-20, 30-13 and 30-27. Even a run near the end of the third game was not enough to overcome CUA’s powerful front line.

Volleyball Drops a Heartbreaker to Marymount
The CUA Cardinals came ever so close to coming back from a two-game deficit Tuesday night against the Marymount Saints (6-0, 1-0), but in the end the Cards were unable to claw all the way back in the CAC opener. The team was up in the final game but eventually lost 15-13 to drop to 4-5 on the season.

CUA volleyball (4-4) competed at the Battlefield Classic this Friday and Saturday posting a 2-2 record in its second tournament of the season. Senior hitter Whitney Dachelet (Anniston, Ala./Donoho) hit her 100th kill of 2006 in the team’s final game of the tournament.

The team went 2-2 in four matches including a win against Neumann which was head coach Nagy Abdelrazek’s 300th career victory. Freshman Carey Anne Nassib (West Chester, Pa./Villa Maria) and junior Emily McGlynn (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) were both named to the all-tournament squad after exceptional performances throughout the two-day event.
