2/26/2008

WASHINGTON - The Catholic University of America freshman Brianna Peterson (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland) was named to the Landmark Conference women's basketball second team the league announced Monday.  Peterson was one of four freshmen that received recognition among the 12 honorees.

Peterson had an outstanding freshman season making a major impact for the Cardinals.  She led CUA in scoring with 14.7 ppg and tied for fourth on the squad in scoring with 4.5 rpg.  The forward started 18 of 22 games played and also notched 25 assists along with 21 steals.  She was solid from long range this past season shooting 34.2 percent.  Peterson scored in double-digits 18 times and had a season-best 25 points at the United States Merchant Marine Academy earlier this month.

In the Landmark Peterson made her mark ranking second in scoring average, fifth in three point percentage, 11th in field goal percentage (41.7 percent) and the same free throw percentage (73.1 percent).

The Cardinals finished 10-15 overall and 4-8 in conference narrowly missing the Landmark Tournament.  However, the team returns its entire lineup next season and plans to build upon the experience gained by the nine freshmen.
