Owunna rewarded for tournament performance with POW award
WASHINGTON – After leading CUA to its first Landmark Conference championship, Katarina Owunna was named the conference's Player of the Week on Monday. Owunna averaged 17 points on 58% shooting and 11.5 rebounds in the Cardinals pair of conference tournament victories last week.
Owunna began her week with a 12-point, 11-rebound performance in the Cardinals 47-40 victory at Scranton in the semifinals on February 22. The Pittsburgh native sank both of her free throw attempts and added two blocks and an assist.
On Saturday, February 25, Owunna was nearly unstoppable in CUA's win over Juniata in the conference championship. She sank 10 of 14 shots from the floor en route to 22 points, and pulled down 12 rebounds.
For the season, Owunna is averaging 10.2 points and 8.2 rebounds, while shooting 49% from the floor and 71% at the charity stripe.
With Owunna leading the way, CUA became the first team in Landmark Conference history to win a road playoff game (at Scranton). The Cardinals then won a second road playoff game when they upended the No. 10 ranked Juniata Eagles.
