Woerner named an ECAC First Team All-Star
WASHINGTON – The postseason honors continue to come in for
CUA’s Jill Woerner, who was recently named to the ECAC
Division III South All-Star Team. A first team selection,
Woerner was also a third team All-Region and first team
All-Conference honoree after helping lead the Cardinals to their
first conference title and NCAA Tournament this season.
Woerner led CUA in scoring this season with 13.1 points per
game. A two-time first team All-Conference selection,
Woerner’s versatility once again paved the way for a terrific
season. A native of Providence, Woerner ranked among the
conference leaders in scoring (4th), rebounding (13th), field goal
percentage (5th), free throw percentage (11th), steals (10th) and
blocks (6th).
Woerner scored in double figures 17 times in 2011-12, with a
season high of 23 points coming in the Landmark Conference
championship win over Juniata. She was named the Landmark
Conference Player of the Week on two occasions (December 19,
February 20), and also received D3Hoops.com Team of the Week
laurels on December 22.
A 5-11 guard, Woerner also eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her
career this season, scoring the milestone basket in a win over
Susquehanna on February 11. Woerner stole a pass and went
coast-to-coast for a layup to become the 18th woman in CUA history
to score 1,000 career points.
With Woerner leading the way, CUA won a program record 22 games
this season, which included the Cardinals' first-ever conference
championship. CUA also earned its first bid to the NCAA
Tournament where the Cards took on Muhlenberg in Alliance,
Ohio.
