Woerner collects Player of the Week award from conference
WASHINGTON – Jill Woerner was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week on Monday, after averaging 17.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks in a pair of wins for CUA last week. Woerner and the Cardinals have now won eight straight following last week's pair of victories.
Woerner knocked down 7 of 13 shots en route to an 18-point performance in CUA's road win at Wesley on December 12. The junior added eight rebounds, five steals, three assists and a block in the win.
On December 17, Woerner finished with 17 points, nine rebounds, three steals and three blocks in a 62-44 victory at Stevenson. Woerner shot 5 of 10 from the floor and a perfect 6 of 6 at the charity stripe.
Woerner currently leads CUA in scoring (15.1) and steals (2.6), while ranking second in blocks (0.9) and third in rebounding (6.1).
CUA, who is off the holiday break, will return to the court on December 30 when the Cardinals host Thiel College in the CUA Holiday Tournament. Tip-off from inside the DuFour Center is set for 2 p.m., with St. John Fisher and Washington College playing one another in the other semifinal. The two winners will then square off in the championship on December 31.
