USA Today Coaches poll ranks Cardinals No. 19

WASHINGTON – The USA Today Division III Coaches Poll was announced on Tuesday and CUA is ranked No. 19 this week.  The Cardinals went 2-1 last week, earning an impressive road win over then-nationally ranked York, as well as a conference victory vs. Juniata.

CUA picked up that win at York on January 7 by a score of 60-52.  The Cardinals trailed the then-No. 18 Spartans by eight with 10:13 to play before unleashing a 21-5 run the rest of the way.  Emily Grabiak scored a game-high 14 points, while Jill Woerner added 12.

Two days later, CUA again found itself trailing in a game, this time to Juniata.  The Cards were down by two with 8:51 to play before scoring 12 straight to surge in front en route to a 70-64 win.  Grabiak had a terrific all-around game this time, with 17 points, 11 assists and 7 rebounds, while Kelli Josephsen and Katarina Owunna both finished with double-doubles.

The Cardinals tough week continued on Saturday when they lost their first game of the season at Moravian.  CUA had a chance to tie the game late or force overtime, but came up short, despite 22 points by Woerner.

On Monday, CUA learned that it is ranked No. 18 in this week's D3Hoops.com Top 25 poll.

No. 18/19 CUA hits the road for its next game when the Cardinals travel to face Susquehanna on Wednesday evening.  Start time is set for 7 p.m.
