Cardinals ranked 17th by two outlets after USA Today poll is released
WASHINGTON – CUA is now ranked 17th in two polls, after
the USA
Today Top 25 Coaches poll was announced on Tuesday.
One day earlier, the Cardinals learned that they are ranked No. 17
in the D3Hoops.com
poll. At 16-1 overall and 5-1 in the Landmark Conference,
CUA is off to its best start in school history.
CUA picked up a pair of conference wins last week, beginning with
a 75-49 victory at Susquehanna on Wednesday, aided by a defensive
performance that forced 19 Crusader turnovers and forced them into
29.6 percent shooting. Jill Woerner led the way offensively
with 14 points, while as a team, the Cards knocked down six
3-pointers.
On Saturday, CUA held off a second half rally by Scranton to earn
a 66-50 win inside the DuFour Center. That victory ran the
Cardinals’ win streak at home to 13 straight. Katarina
Owunna led the way offensively with 17 points and a season-high 15
rebounds.
CUA currently leads the Landmark Conference in scoring defense
(51.5), while ranking third in scoring offense (66.8). The
Cardinals +15.4 scoring margin is also tops in the conference.
No. 17 makes the trip north to face Goucher College on Wednesday
evening. Start time is set for 7 p.m.
