Woerner, Owunna named to All-Region Team by D3Hoops.com
WASHINGTON – Jill Woerner and Katarina Owunna have been
named to the D3Hoops.com All-Region Team, it was announced on
Wednesday. This marks the third year in a row in which Woerner
received the honor, while for Owunna, it is her first All-Region
selection.
The Landmark Conference and ECAC Player of the Year, Woerner
leaves CUA as the second leading scorer in school history with
1,544 career points. A First Team All-Conference selection and ECAC
All-Star, Woerner was named the Landmark Player of the Week twice
this season, in helping to lead CUA to its second straight
conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance.
Woerner ranks in the top 10 of seven statistical categories in the
Landmark Conference. She scored in double figures 27 times in
2012-13, including a career-high 29 points vs. Eureka.
A native of Providence, Woerner posted four double-doubles
throughout the season, which includes a season-high 12 rebounds in
a win over William Paterson. One of the Cards’ captains,
Woerner dropped 25 points in an overtime win against Moravian on
February 16, which clinched the top seed in the conference
tournament for CUA.
A biomedical engineering major, Woerner averaged 16.6 points, 6.4
rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. She
helped lead CUA to its first NCAA Tournament victory on March
1.
A First Team All-Conference selection, Owunna earns Second Team
All-Region honors following a terrific season. The senior ranked in
the top 10 of four statistical categories within the Landmark,
including scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, and
blocks.
Owunna averaged 11.7 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game,
while shooting 44.9 percent from the field. A native of Pittsburgh,
she scored in double figures 19 times in 2012-13, including a
season-high 22 in CUA’s NCAA Tournament 2nd Round game vs.
Widener.
An accounting major, Owunna also totaled 10 double-digit rebound
efforts, with a season-high of 15 coming against Scranton in
January. Owunna shot better than 50 percent from the floor in 10
games, topping out with a 7 of 10 performance in a win at Merchant
Marine Academy in January.
Owunna wraps up her time in the red and black with career numbers
of 866 points, 683 rebounds, 136 blocks and 45 percent shooting
from the field.
