CUA moves up to No. 17 in this week's D3Hoops.com Top 25 poll
WASHINGTON – Two conference wins last week have pushed CUA
up to No. 17 in the D3Hoops.com Top
25 poll, announced on Monday. The 16-1 Cardinals defeated
Susquehanna on the road and Scranton at home last week to improve
to 5-1 in the Landmark Conference. The win over the Royals
was CUA’s 13th straight at home, with eight of those coming
this season.
CUA got its week going with a 75-49 win at Susquehanna on January
16, with the Cardinals defense forcing the Crusaders into 29.6
percent shooting and 19 turnovers. Jill Woerner with 14
points and Katarina Owunna with 12 led the way offensively.
Three days later, CUA picked up an impressive 66-50 win over
Scranton inside the DuFour Center. In the second half, the
Cardinals saw their 17-point lead cut to six before responding to
put the game away.
Owunna pumped in 17 points this time around, to go along with a
season-high 15 boards, while Woerner added 16 points, nine
rebounds, three assists and three blocks and Jenny McGann finished
with 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals.
CUA, which is ranked 19th in the USA Today Coaches Poll, is
currently alone in second place in the conference standings, with
Juniata and Scranton tied for third.
The Cardinals pace the conference in scoring defense, scoring
margin, field goal percentage defense, rebounding margin, assists,
and offensive rebounds.
The No. 17/19 Cardinals travel to Goucher on Wednesday
