No. 17 CUA back in action on Wednesday vs. Gophers

WASHINGTON - The No. 17 Cardinals embark on the start of a three-game road trip on Wednesday when CUA makes the short trip north to face Goucher College.  The Cards picked up a 66-50 win over Scranton their last time out, aided by Katarina Owunna's 17 points and season-high 15 rebounds.  CUA also received 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals from Jenny McGann to improve to 5-1 in the Landmark Conference and run its winning streak to 13 straight inside the DuFour Center.

CUA has pulled down double-digit offensive rebounds in every game this season, topping out with 28 vs. Salisbury.  The Cardinals lead the Landmark Conference with an average of 19.1 offensive boards per night.

After missing three games due to a family commitment in late December, Owunna has since returned to form.  The senior is averaging 11.0 points on 49 percent shooting and 8.8 rebounds in the five games since her return, topping out with 17 points and 15 boards against Scranton.

In addition to her assist prowess, Emily Grabiak also leads the Landmark in assist/turnover ratio (2.4).  Her 90 assists against only 37 turnovers ranks 4th in the entire nation.  The New Jersey native has totaled 29 assists and just seven turnovers in her last four games (4.14 assist/turnover ratio).

McGann played one of her best games of the season against Scranton, totaling 11 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals in 36 minutes of action.  The Pennsylvania native had been struggling on the offensive end, averaging only 5.2 points on 24 percent shooting in the previous nine contests.

CUA ranks 10th in the nation in field goal percentage defense, holding teams to 30.9 percent shooting from the floor.  The Cardinals have held 11 teams to 35 percent or lower, and 10 teams to less than 30 percent.

Goucher enters Wednesday's game with a 5-11 mark overall and a 1-5 record within the Landmark Conference.  The Gophers are ranked last in the conference in scoring offense, scoring margin, free throw percentage and 3-point field goal percentage, and second to last in scoring defense.

Latifah Butler leads Goucher in scoring, averaging 19.4 points per game on 63.5 percent shooting, while Sharnell Huff adds 11.3 points per night.  CUA has won the last four meetings between the schools, with the Gophers last win coming on February 20, 2010.
