Cardinals up four spots in this week's USA Today Top-25 Coaches Poll

WASHINGTON – Despite not playing last week, the CUA women’s basketball team moved up four spots in this week’s USA Today Sports Division III Top-25 Coaches Poll.  The Cardinals check in at No. 20 with 35 points, and are tied with Illinois Wesleyan in the poll.

CUA is currently unbeaten at 6-0, including a 3-0 mark at home.  The Cardinals were last in action on December 1 when they opened Landmark Conference play with a 66-49 win over Drew in New Jersey.

Senior Jill Woerner was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week last week, and leads CUA in scoring this season at 17.5 points per game.

Classmate Katarina Owunna is next in line with 11.3 points per game, and her 9.7 rebounds per game lead the team.

The Cardinals are currently ranked fifth in the nation in field goal percentage defense (28.5), 21st in rebound margin (+10.8) and 32nd in scoring defense (48.8).

CUA also continues to inch towards a top-25 ranking in the poll. The Cardinals received 30 votes this week, putting them only 26 away from a spot in the top-25.

The No. 20 Cardinals are back at it on Saturday evening when they travel to face Washington College.  Start time is set for 7 p.m.  CUA then heads to Puerto Rico next week for a pair of games.
