Cardinals up four spots in this week's USA Today Top-25 Coaches Poll
WASHINGTON – Despite not playing last week, the CUA
women’s basketball team moved up four spots in this
week’s USA
Today Sports Division III Top-25 Coaches Poll. The
Cardinals check in at No. 20 with 35 points, and are tied with
Illinois Wesleyan in the poll.
CUA is currently unbeaten at 6-0, including a 3-0 mark at
home. The Cardinals were last in action on December 1 when
they opened Landmark Conference play with a 66-49 win over Drew in
New Jersey.
Senior Jill Woerner was named the Landmark Conference Player of
the Week last week, and leads CUA in scoring this season at 17.5
points per game.
Classmate Katarina Owunna is next in line with 11.3 points per
game, and her 9.7 rebounds per game lead the team.
The Cardinals are currently ranked fifth in the nation in field
goal percentage defense (28.5), 21st in rebound margin (+10.8) and
32nd in scoring defense (48.8).
CUA also continues to inch towards a top-25 ranking in the D3Hoops.com
poll. The Cardinals received 30 votes this week, putting them
only 26 away from a spot in the top-25.
The No. 20 Cardinals are back at it on Saturday evening when they
travel to face Washington College. Start time is set for 7
p.m. CUA then heads to Puerto Rico next week for a pair of
games.
