Cardinals ranked 21st in this week's USA Today Top-25 poll
WASHINGTON – Unbeaten at 7-0, the CUA women's basketball team checks in at No. 21 in this week's USA Today Division III Top-25 poll, announced on Tuesday. The Cardinals were last in action over the weekend, when they took down Washington College by a score of 64-53, behind Emily Grabiak's double-double (11 points, 10 assists).
Grabiak currently leads the Cardinals in assists at 4.9 per game, and she is one six players averaging at least 6.9 points. Jill Woerner leads the way offensively with 17.4 points per game, followed by Katarina Owunna at 10.9 per game.
CUA's field goal percentage defense continues to rank among the nation's best, with the Cardinals currently 7th at 28.7%. CUA also ranks in the top-35 in scoring defense, having held its seven opponents to only 49.4 points per game.
Individually, Grabiak is ranked 13th in America in assist/turnover ratio (2.43), and Owunna checks in at No. 28 in blocked shots (2.43/game).
The Cardinals have held four of their seven opponents to fewer than 50 points thus far, including three of the past four.
In addition to their USA Today national ranking, the Cardinals continue to move towards a top-25 spot in the D3Hoops.com poll. CUA is currently ranked 28th in the poll with 45 points.
CUA is currently in Puerto Rico, where the Cardinals will play a pair of games, beginning on Wednesday at 10 a.m. when they take on Eureka. On Thursday, CUA faces Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, also at 10.
