ECAC names Woerner Player of the Week in South

WASHINGTON – The honors continue to pour in for senior Jill Woerner, who was named the ECAC South Player of the Week on Wednesday. Woerner, who received Landmark Conference Player of the Week accolades on Monday, was named an Academic All-American on Tuesday.

In two wins last week, Woerner averaged 18 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks and 1.5 steals. She poured in a game-high 25 points and pulled down 10 boards in a 79-75 overtime victory vs. No. 23 Moravian on February 16. Woerner and the Cards overcame a 15-point 2nd half deficit to earn the win and locked up the No. 1 seed in this week's Landmark Conference Tournament.

On February 13, Woerner scored 11 points in a 61-43 win over Goucher. Battling the flu, Woerner added six assists, two blocks and a rebound as CUA set a school record for single season victories (23) and Landmark Conference wins (12).

Bolstered by her performance in that win vs. Moravian, Woerner finished the regular season tied atop the conference's scoring leaders, averaging 17 points per game. The third all-time leading scorer in school history, Woerner currently has 1,488 career tallies.

CUA is nationally ranked in two polls, checking in at No. 9 in the USA Today Coaches Poll, and No. 10 in the D3Hoops.com Top 25 poll.

Woerner and the top-seeded Cardinals will play host to No. 4 Juniata on Wednesday evening in the Landmark Conference Tournament semifinals. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.

The winner of that game moves into Saturday's championship.
