Woerner named Landmark Conference Player of the Week
WASHINGTON – Senior Jill Woerner was named the Landmark Conference Player of the Week on Monday. Woerner helped CUA clinch the top seed in the upcoming conference tournament after averaging 18 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks and 1.5 steals in a pair of wins last week. This marks the second time this season in which Woerner has earned a weekly award from the conference.
Battling the flu, Woerner scored 11 points in a 61-43 win over Goucher on February 13. The Providence native added six assists, two blocks and a rebound as CUA set a school record for single season victories (23) and Landmark Conference wins (12).
On Saturday, Woerner erupted for a game-high 25 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, two blocks and two assists in a 79-75 overtime win vs. Moravian. The Cards overcame a 15-point second half deficit to earn the win and exact revenge for their only loss this season.
With her performance Saturday, Woerner finished the regular season tied atop the conference's scoring leaders, averaging 17 points per game. The third all-time leading scorer in school history, Woerner currently has 1,488 career points.
Woerner and the top-seeded Cardinals will play host to No. 4 Juniata on Wednesday evening in the Landmark Conference Tournament semifinals, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The winner of that game moves into Saturday's championship.
