WBCA names Woerner to its All-America Team
WASHINGTON – One day after earning All-Region honors from D3Hoops.com, senior Jill Woerner was named an All-American by the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) on Thursday. The honors continue to roll in for Woerner, who was also named the Landmark Conference and ECAC Player of the Year this season.
Woerner is one of only 10 Division III women's student-athletes in the nation named to the WBCA All-America Team. The team was selected by a vote of the selection committee, which is comprised of one representative from each of the eight geographical regions and a chairperson.
The second-leading scorer in school history with 1,544 career points, Woerner was a First Team All-Conference selection and ECAC All-Star this season. She was named the Landmark Player of the Week on two occasions in 2012-13, in helping to lead CUA to its second straight conference title and NCAA Tournament appearance.
Woerner ranks in the top 10 of seven statistical categories in the Landmark Conference. She scored in double figures 27 times this season, including a career-high 29 points vs. Eureka.
A native of Providence, Woerner posted four double-doubles throughout the season, which includes a season-high 12 rebounds in a win over William Paterson. One of the Cards' captains, Woerner dropped 25 points in an overtime win against Moravian on February 16, which clinched the top seed in the conference tournament for CUA.
A biomedical engineering major, Woerner averaged 16.6 points, 6.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.2 blocks per game. She helped lead CUA to its first national ranking and first NCAA Tournament victory this season.
