WASHINGTON - Cardinal women's basketball senior Emily Grabiak led CUA with a double-double consisting of a career-high 24 points and 10 rebounds in the 85-66 win over the Eagles of Bridgewater (Va.) on Thursday.
Grabiak shot 7-of-13 from the field, 2-of-5 from behind the arc and 8-of-10 from the charity stripe with 17 of her total points coming from her second half effort. Josephine Migash added 16 points, while Michelle Desantis collected 14 points.
As a unit, Catholic shot 48 percent from the field going 28-for-59, 33 percent from three-point range 6-for18 and 68 from the free-throw line 23-of-34.
CUA opened the contest pulling ahead of the Bridgewater 4-0, before the host Eagles scored their first layup. Each team went point-for-point, with Catholic advancing first on each lead change. Bridgewater took a moderate three-point lead at the 7:38 mark and maintained the lead until the half, with BC leading 35-32.
After the first twenty minutes of play, Migash led the Cardinals with eight points, while Grabiak collected seven points and six rebounds.
The second half consisted of a 15-5 CUA run in five minutes of action for a 47-40 Cardinal lead.
BC answered back with an 8-2 run to come within one before the media timeout at the 13:52 mark. The Eagles evened the contest with a made free throw upon returning the court.
Migash and Grabiak ignited the Cardinal offense at the 13:38 mark leading to CUA's second win of the season with a final score of 85-66.
Four Bridgewater student-athletes finished in double-figures including Cassidy Burkholder's 21 points, Molly Shelley's 13 points and 10 points apiece from Jessi Strom and Holly Morgan. Burkholder pulled a team-high seven rebounds.
Catholic advances to 2-1 on the season and returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 24 to take on Salisbury with a 2 p.m. tipoff.
