WASHINGTON – Three Cardinals scored in double figures including a double-double from Emily Grabiak for a 68-55 victory over the Shorewomen of Washington College on Saturday in the DuFour Center.
CUA's second consecutive home-court victory advances the squad to 5-3 on the season, as the Shorewomen drop to 2-6.
Jayni Webster led the offense with 15 points followed by 14 points from Josephine Migash and rounded out by Grabiak's 10 points and 11 rebounds. As a unit, the victorious red and black shot 35 percent from the field (21-60), 39 percent from three-point range (7-18) and 76 percent from the charity stripe (19-25).
The first half of play was anyone's game with the two teams varying between nine lead changes and four ties.
Catholic took its largest lead of the half with eight points. WC chiseled away at the lead on a three minute 7-2 run for a halftime score of 32-31.
The Cardinals hit the hardwood running in the second half, reaching a 16-point margin lead by the 7:42 mark.
On a brief 7-0 run, the Shorewomen snapped the double-digit lead. Nonetheless, CUA recharged the offense and cruised to a 13-point 68-55 victory.
Catholic will close out the 2013 calendar year with the CUA-Fairfield Inn Washington DC Holiday Tournament. The two-day Dec. 29-30 event welcomes King's (Pa.), Clark and Regis.
