WASHINGTON – With 2 minutes and 44 seconds remaining in the contest, Catholic turned a 66-66 tie into a 71-69 victory over King's College to advance to the championship game of the 2013 CUA-Fairfield Inn Washington D.C. Holiday Tournament hosted by the Cardinals on Dec. 30-31.
CUA's Emily Grabiak guided all scorers with 20 points and added 14 rebounds to her effort for a double-double. Josephine Migash collected 10 points, while Grabiak distributed a team-high eight assists. The mighty red and black shot 50 percent from the charity stripe (15-30), 39 percent from the field (25-65) and 25 percent from three-point range (6-24).
After leading the entire second half, King's College chiseled away at CUA's six-point 59-53 lead at the 6:24 mark to gridlock the contest 66-66.
In the last two minutes of play, CUA and KC varied between two lead changes and three ties before Grabiak netted a jumper in the paint to secure the 71-69 victory.
Four King's College student-athletes scored in double figures, including a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds from Marissa Manning. Feairheller was the second leading scorer with 16 points, Jennifer Fabian collected 11 points and Shae Grim tallied 10 points.
The Cardinals advance to 6-3 on the season, as King's drops to 3-6.
Catholic will advance to the championship game of the 2013 CUA-Fairfield Inn Washington D.C. Holiday Tournament to face the Pride of Regis College at 4 p.m. on Dec. 31 in the DuFour Athletic Center.
