WASHINGTON – The Catholic University women's basketball team concludes the calendar as the 2013 CUA-Fairfield Inn Washington D.C. Holiday Tournament Champions to extend their winning streak to five consecutive games.
After defeating the Monarchs of King's College on Saturday, Dec. 30, the Cardinals advance to the championship game to face the Pride of Regis, where tournament MVP Emily Grabiak led the CUA to a 66-49 over RC with a game-high 22 points. Josephine Migash, who was also named to the all-tournament team, gathered 13 points, as Brigid Gannon added 10 rebounds to the win.
The Cardinals trailed by one at the half, by being outscored 10-6 in the paint, 8-4 on second chances and 4-0 on fast breaks.
CUA returned to the hardwood and varied between three ties before taking the lead at the 14:52 mark on a long-range by Grabiak.
By the 9:37 mark, the mighty red and black reached a 15 point margin lead. Regis brought the margin to 10 before CUA cruised to a 17-point 66-49 win.
The Cardinals return to action on Monday, Jan. 6 to face Gwynedd Mercy at the DuFour Center at 7:00 p.m.
