WASHINGTON – In spite of Juniata's best efforts in the opening minutes of the second-half, a career-high showing from Emily Grabiak provided the leverage for Catholic to defeat the Eagles, 67-59, and remain undefeated in the Landmark Conference.
Grabiak led all scorers on the evening with 33 points and 10 rebounds. The two-time conference player of the week and ECAC player of the week finished the contest shooting11-19 from the field, 3-7 from behind the arc and 8-9 from the free-throw line. Josephine Migash added 10 points to the win, as she and Brigid Gannon pulled down six boards apiece.
Catholic held JC scoreless in first few minutes of play before the conference foes varied between two ties and various lead changes.
The Eagles saw their last lead of the half at the 6:35 mark, as they bested Catholic 22-21. CUA's Jayni Webster, who finished 2-4 from the long range, snapped the slight advantage and ignited a 15-1 run for a halftime score of 39-23.
Starting the second 20 minutes of action, Juniata went on an 18-4 run, tying the ball game 43-43 by the 13:10 mark.
The Cards regained their composure to obtain the final double-figure margin lead of half, 55-45 at the 5:30 mark.
JC came within a five-point margin deficit before succumbing to an eight-point 67-59 loss to the host birds.
The Lady Cards return to the DuFour Athletic Center to host Moravian at 6 p.m.
