WASHINGTON – In front a season-high 532 fans, the Catholic University women's basketball team recorded its first overtime win of the season, as the Cards conquered the Greyhounds of Moravian 82-77 in overtime at the DuFour Athletic Center.
CUA advances to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in the Landmark Conference, as Moravian drops to 13-3, 4-1. Tonight's triumph snaps Moravian's five-game winning skid.
Emily Grabiak notched her six consecutive 20-point plus scoring outing with a contest-high 23 points, and her attained her seventh double-double by adding 15 rebounds to the night. Josephine Migash scored a season-high 19 points, as the second highest scorer for the Cards. Jayni Webster, who shot 3-of-4 from the long range, rounded out the offensive effort with 11 points, as Bernadette Launi pulled down 12 boards.
Laura Jordan led the Greyhounds with a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds. Katie O'Rourke scored 14 points followed by 13 points from Danielle Brogan and 12 points from Alesha Marcks.
Neither team reached a significantly high margin lead over the course of regulation play. With two minutes remaining in the first half, CUA tied the ball game 29-29 after trailing by four points.
Before tying the game 67-67 in the second half and sending the contest into overtime, CUA pushed through another Moravian lead during the final minutes of play. Grabiak scored four consecutive points holding the loss at bay for another five minutes.
Catholic flourished in overtime, leading by a contest-high seven points on two occasions and concluding the game with an 82-77 win. Grabiak was close to perfect in overtime shooting 3-of-3 from the field, 1-of-1 from three-point range and 1-of-2 from the charity stripe.
The Lady Cardinals conclude the month by hosting Susquehanna on Wednesday, Jan. 22 and Goucher on Wednesday, Jan. 29 and heading to Scranton for Saturday, Jan. 25 doubleheader.
