Grabiak’s 1,000 Career Point, Second-Half Surge Pace Cards to Victory
WASHINGTON – With 5 minutes and 46 seconds remaining in the contest, senior Emily Grabiak grabbed an offensive rebound and connected on the putback to score her 1,000th career point to guide Catholic (17-4, 10-1) to a 71-63 win over Susquehanna (11-10,5-6) in Selinsgrove, Pa., in Houts Gymnasium.
Grabiak led the CUA offense with 19 points and 16 rebounds for her ninth double-double, as Melissa Errico added 15 points, Michelle Desantis contributed 13 points and Josephine Migash rounded out the double-figure effort with 10 points.
The Cards had a rough first half, going 0-of-7 from three-point range and 13-of-31 from the field in spite of a 6-of-7 finish from the charity stripe.
Susquehanna varied between two ties with CUA before reaching an eight-point 30-22 lead.
On a 10-2 Cardinal run, CUA recorded the fourth tie of the half with a score of 32-32 before Nikki Komara of SU scored a layup to take a 34-32 lead into the locker room.
Catholic entered the second half on another tie battle prior to the mighty red and black outscoring Susquehanna 24-16 in the last 11 minutes of play to secure the win.
The Cards host their final doubleheader of the season on Saturday, Feb. 15, welcoming the Univeristy of Scranton with the women tipping off at 6:00 p.m.
Note: Grabiak becomes the 19th member of the 1,000 Point Club, she follows Jill Woerner (2009-13) who scored her 1,000th point in the same gym on February 11, 2012.
