Grabiak Named Player of the Year, Migash and Donohue Also Honored
WASHINGTON - The Landmark Conference women's basketball coaches selected Catholic's Emily Grabiak as the Player of the Year. Josephine Migash was also named 1st Team All-Landmark, and head coach Matt Donohue was voted Coach of the Year.
Grabiak led Catholic to a 19-6 record and the No. 2 seed in the Landmark tournament. She averaged 16.4 points per game and 9.3 rebounds per game. Her numbers in Landmark play are even better, as the senior captain poured in 17.4 points and 9.6 boards a night. Grabiak ranks in the top 10 in ten different categories of Landmark statistics. To date, she has recorded 12 double-doubles this year and was named the Landmark Player of the Week four times, including three consecutive weeks.
At 5-7 tall, Grabiak led the team in rebounding 14 times and recorded a career-high 16 boards at Susquehanna. Grabiak is the only player in Catholic women's basketball history to record 1,000 points, 700 rebounds, 400 assists, and 250 steals.
This is Grabiak's second appearance on the All-Landmark 1st Team, she was also a 1st Team honoree last season.
Migash more than doubled her points and rebounds production this season. She boasts 12.3 points per game and 6.0 boards per game. She earned a starting role as a sophomore and took advantage of the opportunity. The forward was named the Landmark Player of the Week on February 10 after averaging 20 points and 5 rebounds in a 2-0 week for the Cardinals.
In Catholic's regular season finale at Moravian, Migash notched her first career double-double on personal bests of 23 points and 15 rebounds. He performance in the win helped CUA secure the No. 2 seed over Moravian in the conference tournament.
Catholic head coach Matt Donohue and his staff were voted Coaching Staff of the Year for the conference. The Cardinals came up short in their quest to defend their 2013 and 2012 titles, but finished the regular season 19-5 overall and 12-2 in the Landmark on the way to earning the No. 2 seed in the tournament.
The Cardinals were predicted to finish fourth in the conference behind Moravian, Scranton, and Juniata. Coach Donohue and his staff went 4-2 against those teams with regular season sweeps of Moravian and Juniata. This marks the first time Donohue has been honored by the conference.
