WASHINGTON – Michelle DeSantis and Melissa Errico made their mark on the 2014-15 season, as they recorded double-figure finishes during Catholic University's 57-46 season opening win over the No. 25 Messiah Falcons on Saturday, November 15 at the DuFour Athletic Center on the Franny Murray Court.
DeSantis led the afternoon with 13 points, as Errico scored 10 points and Josphine Migash added nine points to the offense, as Kristen Walheim pulled down eight rebounds
Catholic took an early 12-5 lead by the 11:16 mark of the first half, which was ignited by Bridget Power in the first two minutes of play.
On an 8-3 run by Messiah, the Falcons narrowed the margin lead to two for a score of 15-13 with 5:23 remaining in the half.
CUA regained its composure and paced to a 28-16 lead by the half.
In the second half of play, the Cardinals cruised to a 19-point margin lead by the 2:42 mark before reaching the season opening 57-46 win.
Catholic returns to action on Monday, November 17 to host the Seahawks of St. Mary's (Md.) at 6:0 p.m. Prior to tipoff, CUA and SMU will honor the memory of Jamie Lynn Roberts, who tragically lost her life over the summer. Roberts was a tri-sport student-athlete at St. Mary's, where she excelled not only on the basketball court, but on the lacrosse and soccer fields as well. After graduating, she joined the Cardinals women's basketball coaching staff and went on to become the assistant athletic communications director in her third season at CUA.
