WASHINGTON – With 11 made threes by the No. 1 Fairleigh Dickinson University – Florham Devils and 25 turnovers by the Catholic University Cardinals, CUA concluded its five-game homestand with an 84-59 loss at the DuFour Athletic Center on Saturday.
Catholic sophomore Michelle DeSantis (Trumbull, Conn./Lauralton Hall) guided the squad with 15 points and distributed four assists, while junior Josephine Migash (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) scored 12 points and gathered seven rebounds and fellow classmate Kristen Walheim (Malvern, Pa./Villa Maria Academy) pulled down a game-high 10 boards.
The Devils took the lead within the first five minutes of play, as FDU-Florham reached a first half-high 20-point margin lead with a score of 41-21 with 35 seconds remaining.
After the breather, FDU extended its margin lead to 23 on a three-pointer by Leigh-Ann Lively, who finished the contest with a 5 of 9 output from behind the arc.
Catholic answered back with a 16-5 run for a score of 60-45, before the Devils set out on a final triumphant run and a final score of 84-59.
FDU-Florham's Lively led the visiting squad with 17 points, as Shalette Brown tallied 15 points and six rebounds. Alyssa McDonough, Kyra Dayon, Kara Dayon and Danielle Leguillou, who was 3 of 4 from three-point range, scored nine points apiece.
Statistically, CUA shot 60 percent from the free-throw line (6 of 10), 43 percent from the field (25 of 58) and 21 percent from behind the arc (3 of 14). Florham was 50 percent from the charity stripe (13 of 26), 45 percent from the field (30 of 67) and 41 percent from behind the arc (11 of 27).
The Cardinals take on their first Landmark Conference opponent of the season on Wednesday, Dec. 3 in Selinsgrove, Pa., 7:00 p.m.
