Bethlehem, Pa. – Catholic University sophomore Michelle DeSantis (Trumbull, Conn. / Lauralton Hall) and juniors Josephine Migash (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Trinity) and Jayni Webster (Bryn Mawr, Pa. / Country Day Sacred Heart) recorded season-high outputs in the Cardinals second win over the Moravian Greyhounds this season.
To improve to 14-6 on the year and 8-3 in the Landmark, CUA defeated the Greyhounds (10-9, 6-4), 85-78.
DeSantis led the mighty black and red with 26 points, alongside Migash's first double-double of the season with 19 points and 10 rebounds and 16 points from Webster. Sophomore Bridget Power distributed five assists.
After trailing in the initial minutes of play, CUA tied the contest 7-7 and paced on a 10-2 run forcing a Moravian timeout and series of substitutions.
As Catholic continued to flourish, another strong run forced another Greyhound timeout and lead to a 12-point margin lead at the half for a score of 47-35.
After the intermission, CUA kicked up their effort reaching a 22-point lead at the 14:48 mark for a score of 62-40.
Moravian chiseled away at the lead over the next six minutes of play to come within six points. Despite their valiant effort, the Greyhounds came as close as a four-point deficit before CUA clinched the 85-78 win.
By the numbers, CUA shot 82 percent from the free-throw line (22 of 27) and 37 percent from the field and three point range, 28 of 76 and 7 of 19, respectively. Moravian finished the evening at 82 percent from the charity stripe (22-27), 38 percent from the field (26-69) and 33 percent from behind the arc (4-12).
The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 4, to take on the Blue Jays of Elizabethtown in Elizabethtown, Pa., for a 7 p.m. matchup.
