BOSTON. – The Catholic University of America women's basketball team improved to 2-0 on Saturday afternoon as the Cardinals defeated St. John Fisher, 45-40, in the first game of the Emmanuel College Tip-Off Classic.
Catholic started strong and overcame a rally by St. John Fisher in the second quarter. The Cards trailed, 14-13, but used a quick 6-0 run to take a lead it would not give back.
It was a well-rounded effort the Cardinals as eight different players scored, led by a game-high 11 by senior Melissa Errico. She also grabbed a contest-best 11 rebounds for the double-double.
Catholic owned the glass in the game as it held a 44-24 advantage in rebounds. Launi was second on the team with six boards as seven Cardinals pulled down three-or-more.
The Cards were also strong defensively as they allowed just 13 shots and held St. John Fisher to just 25-perecent from the field and a 23.1-perecent clip from beyond the arc.
With the victory, Catholic advances to the championship game tomorrow afternoon, facing the winner of Heidelberg and host Emmanuel.
