Errico’s 21 Points Push Catholic Past Oberlin, 68-41

WASHINGTON – The Catholic University of America women's basketball team won its 10th game of the season on Monday inside the DuFour Center as the Cardinals defeated Oberlin, 68-41. Senior forward Melissa Errico led the way with 21 points and eight assists.

Catholic hit six 3-pointers in the first half, five coming in the initial quarter as they shot past the Yeowomen. The Cards then turned to Errico who scored 16 of her 21 in the second half as she closed out the victory.

Oberlin scored the first point of the game and held a 10-6 lead early, but Catholic used a 17-3 run to build a double-digit lead. The Cardinals also dominated the second and third quarters as they outscored the Yeowomen, 31-14 over the middle two periods. 

The Cards forced the Yeowomen into 25 turnovers and scored 25 points off their miscues with 17 steals in the game. Catholic also assisted on 17 of its 24 makes and knocked down 14-of-18 free throws to secure the win.

Nine difference Cardinals scored in the contest with five at seven-or-more points.

Errico rounded out her scoring line with four rebounds and two steals and went 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Junior guard Payton Smith was the Cards other double-digit scorer as she posted 11 points and added two 3-pointers, four steals and an assist.

Catholic wraps nonconference play with a 9-2 record and improves to 7-1 on its home court.

The Cardinals play their next two on the road at Juniata (1/7) and Elizabethtown (1/11) before they return to Franny Murray Court on Saturday, January 14 against Moravian.
