Towson, Md. - Senior Melissa Errico of The Catholic University of America women's basketball team has been selected as the Landmark Conference Athlete of the Week after her milestone performance versus conference opponent Juniata College.
Errico guided Catholic to a 79-54 conference victory over Juniata with a game-high 21 points while joining the elite group of Lady Cardinals to reach 1,000 career points.
Errico scored 21 points for the second consecutive game, bringing her career total to 1,015 points to become the 21st member of the Catholic University women's basketball 1,000 point club.
"Melissa had a huge week for us and has simply continued to grow as a player and a leader as this season has progressed," said head coach Matt Donohue. "We've asked her to take on a lot more this year than in past seasons and she has embraced each and every challenge put before her. It's great to see her receive this accolade in a conference with so many talented players!"
Along with her 21 points, Errico pulled down nine rebounds, registered three blocks and dished out five assists against the Eagles. On Monday the Cardinals defeated Oberlin, 68-41 as Errico led the way with 21 points and eight assists.
Catholic will continue conference play as they travel to Elizabethtown, Pa., on Wednesday, January 11, to face the Blue Jays, tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
