Towson, Md. - The Catholic University of America women's basketball team outscored Goucher College, 75-46, for its ninth-straight Landmark Conference victory. No. 25 Catholic is now 18-2 overall for the 2016-17 season and remained undefeated in league play.
The Cardinals' bench put in 29 points during the conference victory with freshman Sydney Poindexter scoring a career-high 12 points. Junior reserve Samantha Cowan totaled 13 points and added six rebounds and two steals.
In total, Catholic forced Goucher into 21 turnovers and converted 22 points on Gopher miscues. The Cards grabbed 18 offensive rebounds and tallied 22 second-chance points. They also racked up 12 on fast break opportunities.
Errico hit the first basket of the game and the Cardinals went on an early 14-4 run in the first eight minutes. Two made jumpers from the Gophers followed by a 3-point bucket from Cowan ended the first quarter with the Cardinals ahead, 17-8.
Freshman Megan Stafford made an And-1 in the opening minutes of the second quarter as Catholic continued to advance its lead. Launi and Errico each scored six points additional points before halftime while Cowan put up four. The Lady Cards headed into the halftime intermission with a 13-point advantage, 36-23.
Errico hit three-straight jumpers to start the second half and the Cards quickly advanced the margin to 19 points, 42-23. After a Goucher layup, Catholic went on an 11-6 run to close out the third quarter with a 54-32 lead.
With their ninth conference victory within reach, the Lady Cards rolled out their highest scoring quarter in the fourth. With eight points from Poindexter and four from Cowan, along with jumpers from four additional Cardinals, Catholic totaled 21 points to Goucher's 14 to earn a 75-46 victory.
The No. 25 Cards continue Landmark play on the road, Saturday, Feb. 4 at Drew University. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.
