Towson, Md. - Senior Michelle DeSantis of The Catholic University of America women's basketball team has earned the Landmark Conference's highest honor of Player of the Year after her performance on the court during the 2016-17 season.
A native of Trumbull, Conn., DeSantis leads the conference in 3-point percentage (47.9). She is number two in the Landmark for assists (114) and steals (61), as well as third in field goal percentage (51.3).
DeSantis became the 20th member of Catholic women's basketball's 1000-point club on November 27, 2016, for which she was selected Landmark Athlete of the Week.
As a senior, DeSantis has posted her highest scoring season with 428 points to-date. She put up double-digit points in 22 games, including a career-high 36 points against Juniata on January 28. With 1,383 total career points, DeSantis is currently the number five all-time scorer in women's basketball history.
On January 21, with the help of DeSantis, Catholic downed No. 3 Scranton, 82-78, in overtime. DeSantis had a team-high 22 points as the Cardinals handed the Royals their first regular season loss since January 17, 2015, when Catholic topped Scranton, 46-42, inside the DuFour Center.
Additionally, DeSantis was one of three active players to be selected to the Landmark Conference All-Decade team. She has led the Cardinals to three consecutive appearances in the Landmark Championship Finals and has been selected to the All-Conference First Team in each of the past three seasons.
Launi sits right behind DeSantis as number two in the conference for 3-point percentage (43.8). She is among the Landmark top-10 in field goal percentage (48.0), rebounds (166) and steals (22).
Launi was selected as the Landmark Athlete of the Week on January 23 after her efforts in the Lady Cards' triumph over the Royals. Launi, tallied 17 points in the conference showdown, going 5-of-7 from the field and 7-of-7 from the free throw line. She notched six of Catholic's 13 overtime points, including four in the final 62 seconds.
Errico earns her second straight second team honor and sits at number four in the Landmark for blocks (30). She is ranked in the top-10 for total points (329), steals (48), rebounds (168) and assists (84).
Errico earned Landmark Athlete of the Week honors on January 9, after guiding Catholic to a 79-54 conference victory over Juniata with a game-high 21 points and joined Catholic's 1,000-point club. Errico became the 21st Lady Card to pass the 1000-point milestone and is currently the 11th highest scorer in program history (1,160).
The No. 23 Cardinals are set to travel to Christopher Newport University to play Lynchburg College in the first round of the NCAA Division III Tournament on Friday, March 3, at 5:30 p.m.
