WASHINGTON - Freshman Lindsay DiRomualdo (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) netted a team-high 17 points to help Catholic start the 2002-03 season with a 77-37 victory against Arcadia in non-conference action Friday night at the DuFour Center.
DiRomualdo, who scored 11 first-half points, was 6-for-11 from the floor including 5-for-9 from beyond the arc for the game. Teammate Amy Tyluki (Red Bank, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) added five points, nine assists, and four steals.
The Cardinals (1-0) opened up the lead early on as consecutive three-pointers from DiRomualdo helped to cushion a 9-4 CUA lead. From there, Catholic built 41-19 lead at the half courtesy of a 10-2 run to close the period. It was more of the same in the second half as the Cardinals went on a 15-0 run.
Freshman Gloria Schnepp's (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin) layup made it 58-23 at the 12:57 mark. Schnepp finished with eight points, four rebounds, and three steals.
Junior Kathleen McGlynn (Tallahassee, Fla./Leon) and freshman Jane Maybury (Hawthorne, N.Y./Ursuline) led CUA with six rebounds each. Maybury also added four blocks.
The Scarlet Knights (0-1) were led by Becky Soda's game-high 18 points.
For the game Catholic shot 31-of-69 (44.9%) while Arcadia was just 11-of-57 (19.3%).
The Cardinals return to action on Saturday, Nov. 30, as they play at the University of Scranton. Tipoff is at 1 p.m.
