WASHINGTON - Takisha Pride scored a game-high 17 points to lead three other in double figures as Richard Stockton overcame a three-point halftime deficit to hand Catholic a 70-59 defeat Sunday afternoon at the DuFour Center, sending the Cardinals to their third straight loss.
Pride was 6-for-13 from the floor and also added nine rebounds and five steals.
Freshman Gloria Schnepp led CUA with 13 points, as she was 4-of-4 from the floor and 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
Both teams had trouble finding the shooting touch early as the teams traded leads three times in the first half.
Back-to-back layups by senior Jackie Yacenda gave CUA a five-point lead with just 1:34 in the first half. The Osprey's Kristen Spencer ended the half with a three-pointer to cut the CUA lead to 25-22 at the break.
An 11-2 run by Richard Stockton (7-2) midway through the second stanza broke open 30-30 tie. Kelly Bakanowsky's jumper on a fast break gave the Ospreys its biggest lead of the game at 51-40 with 8:26 in the game.
A three-pointer by freshman Anne Maguire made it a five-point game with just over a minute remaining, but Richard Stockton went 6-of-8 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the win.
Bakanowsky finished with 15 points and five assists while teammate Christina Mason totaled 16 points.
For Catholic (3-5), senior Carol Schnepp netted 12 points and added five rebounds.
The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, January 8th as they travel to Reading, Pa. to take on Albright College at 7 p.m.
