WASHINGTON - St. Mary's handed Catholic a 51-45 setback Thursday
night at the DuFour Center in Capital Athletic Conference action.
The Seahawks' Catherine Blakely led St. Mary's with a game-high 18
points and pulled down nine rebounds. The five starters accumulated
all 51 points for the Seahawks.
Sophomore Aime'e Meyer led Catholic (11-13, 6-7 CAC) with 13 points, hitting on 5-of-10 and 3-of-7 from downtown as she was the only Cardinal in double figures.
Leading 21-19 at halftime, the Seahawks used a 12-2 run to open the second half. The Cardinals would claw to within three twice, with the last time coming with 4:13 in the game but St. Mary's Samanda Hawkins would score on back-to-back buckets to pull away. Hawkins chipped in 13 points for the Seahawks (11-11, 6-6 CAC).
Freshman Jane Maybury added eight points and grabbed three boards.
The Cardinals held a 54-41 rebound edge but shot just 16-of-62 for the game.
Catholic takes on Goucher College in Towson, Md. on Saturday to close out the regular season with a tipoff time of 5:30 p.m.
