Pensacola, Fl.- Catholic shot a season-low 24% from the floor and 14 first-half turnovers gave the University of West Florida a 64-47 win over the Cardinals Monday night.
The Argonauts, a Division II school that competes in the Gulf South Conference, used Kelly Barrett's game-high 20 points in the win.
Down 24-12 in the latter stages of the first half, seniors Carol Schnepp and Amy Tyluki connected on consecutive three-pointers to get CUA as close as 24-19. But a 14-5 run by West Florida (3-4) to close out the half restored the double digit lead. The Cardinals were just 8-of-32 shooting in the first half.
Catholic (3-3) never got within 16 points in the second half.
Schnepp, who had double figures in scoring the last five games, finished with nine points and five rebounds. Tyluki added three points, six rebounds, and two assists.
Junior Kathleen McGlynn totaled four points, a team-high 11 rebounds and two blocks.
The Cardinals resume action in the new year on Friday, January 3rd with a non-conference date with Bethany College at 5 p.m. at the DuFour Center.
