Cardinals have win streak snapped Feb 19, 2003

WASHINGTON - Kirstin Brown's three-pointer with 2:23 in the game helped York to pull away as the Spartans handed Catholic a 64-51 defeat on Senior Night in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday night at the DuFour Center.

Senior Jackie Yacenda led Catholic with a season-high 14 points as the Cardinals had their three-game win streak snapped. Senior Carol Schnepp (12 points) and sophomore Haley Jones (10 points) also finished in double figures. The two also grabbed six caroms apiece respectively.

Mandy Crabbs scored a team-high 13 points and hauled in a game-high 22 rebounds for the Spartans.

Despite missing its first 14 shots, the Cardinals (11-12, 6-6 CAC) hung tough with good defense and kept it a 25-17 Spartan lead at the break.

In the second half, Catholic was able to chip away at the York lead. Tara Petrolino's jumper made it a 32-29 game with 15 minutes to play in the period, capping a 12-7 run by the Catholic. Lindsay DiRomualdo made it a 37-34 game midway through the period as she connected on her only trey of the evening. The freshman finished with seven points and two steals.

Catholic gave it one last push to get within 53-44 with just over three minutes in the game before Brown put the game out of reach.

York (13-11, 9-4 CAC) held a 51-42 rebound advantage but committed 24 turnovers to CUA's 22 mistakes.

Senior Amy Tyluki grabbed a career-high seven rebounds while dishing out eight helpers.

After the game seniors Petrolino, Schnepp, Yacenda, and Tyluki were honored as CUA held its annual Senior Night.

CUA returns to action tomorrow with a CAC tilt with St. Mary's in a rescheduled game here at the DuFour Center at 6 p.m.
