WASHINGTON - The Catholic University women's basketball squad went into their short holiday break on a high note defeating the Trinity Tigers (0-3) 79-56 Wednesday afternoon at the DuFour Center. The Cards scored first and never relinquished the lead but struggled to pull away early. The Cardinals managed to upon this to go into the locker room leading 45-22.
CUA shot 48.2 percent from the field in the first half and had 27 rebounds to Trinity's 13. The Tigers played tight defense which forced 14 Cardinal turnovers but also kept the tempo of the game up as they committed 13 of their own. Peterson contributed 10 points in the first and McPeak had eight rebounds.
The Cardinal coaching staff mixed up the lineup in the second half but managed to keep a comfortable lead throughout. Jenn Canale (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) was a force in the paint coming down with rebounds and going to the line, the freshman hit three free throws in a row to put the Cards up by 32, 67-35 which would be their largest lead of the contest. As time was winding down, the Tigers began firing from beyond the arc and managed to sink enough to take the lead down to 20 but it wouldn't get any closer as the Cards held on for the 79-56 win.
Peterson's 19 points were a game-high while Linderoth chipped in 12. McPeak's 12 rebounds and Canale's 11 helped CUA to a 49-34 advantage in the paint.
