November 15, 2008
WASHINGTON-- Led by Brianna Peterson (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland), who had a double double in the opening game of the 2008-2009 CUA season, the Cardinals managed a 78-58 win over Stevenson University, formerly Villa Julie College.
Peterson led the team in rebounds with 10 boards, and earned her first double double with 16 points. She followed only Christina Rogers (Monmouth Beach, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) who finished with 17 points for the Cards. In total, three players finished in double figures, and nearly every member of the team scored at least a point.
CUA broke out to an eight point lead with 9:57 left in the first half, as both teams started out rather slowly, 18-10. The team then saw that lead grow over the final stages of the first half, leading by 15 at the break.
In the second half, Donohue's team broke out with a 14-5 run over the first six minutes and never looked back. Throughout the second half, Donohue spread the minutes throughout the bench allowing every player with a uniform into the game for a minimum of three minutes.
CUA shot 43.3% from the field and 55.6% from three-point range. The Cardinals dominated the boards grabbing a 52-37 advantage. Kerri Confrey (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) distributed the ball, talling a team high six assists.
CUA will return to action Tuesday, Nov. 18, at St. Mary's (Md.). Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
