Peterson Drops 37 as Cards Soar to Victory
ARLINGTON, VA- Sophomore forward Briana Peterson finished with a double-double (37 points and 10 rebounds) as the CUA women's basketball team earned an 81-67 win over Kings College Saturday afternoon. It was Peterson's second double-double of the season.
The Cardinals held on to the lead for most of the first twenty minutes, but were unable to find true offensive flow until midway through the first half. After Kings took a short four point lead, CUA came charging back with a 22-8 run to end the period. Christina Roger's layup at the 6:28 mark sparked the shift in momentum, and the Cards went into the locker room with a 42-32 advantage.
CUA continued to apply tough defensive pressure in the full court while taking advantage of transition opportunities throughout the second half. The Cardinals lead by as much as 16 in the second half, and ended the game with an 81-67 edge over Kings.
Rogers and teammate Kerri Confrey both tallied 10 points for the squad. Rogers also chipped in four steals, while Confrey added five assists. Senior Jess Schiavoni had a solid game for the Cards, recording six points, 10 boards, and three assists.
CUA will return to the court for 11:00 a.m., game on Sunday against either Neuman College at the Marymount Tournament.
