Women's Basketball Falls to Frostburg
WASHINGTON- Unable to find any sort of spark on the offensive end, the Catholic University of America women's basketball team fell by a single basket to Frostburg State University Tuesday evening.
The Cardinals struggled from the opening tip to gain any sort of momentum. CUA trailed for most of the first half, but took their first lead with 6:11 to go off a made layup by Brianna Peterson (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland). With 22 seconds left, the Bobcats hit a jumper to put them up by one going into halftime.
CUA and Frostburg traded leads for the first three minutes of the second half, and the game remained a close one until the Bobcats went on a 7-2 run with six minutes left. Slowly chipping at the lead, the Cards fought and clawed their way back. A quick layup by Kerri Confrey (Pearl River, N.Y./Pearl River) brought CUA within two points with two seconds left, but time ran out before the squad could regain possession of the ball.
The Cards were lead by Peterson who tallied 15 points and seven rebounds on the night. Kate Robinson (Emmitsburg, Md./Catoctin High School) gave a solid effort with 9 points, six boards, three assists and three steals. Jenn Canale (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) also finished with 8 points and two steals on the night. Emily Brauer (Blauvelt, NY/Albertus Magnus) and Kelly Burke (Glendora, N.J./Bishop Eustace) were two sparks off the bench for CUA, energizing the team with their play-making and defensive efforts.
CUA returns to action with a home game on December 3rd against Wesley at 7 p.m.
