Women's Basketball Falls to Susquehanna
SELINSGROVE, Pa.- The CUA women's basketball team was handed a loss by the Crusaders of Susquehanna University Friday evening, falling to their conference foe by a score of 78-49. The Cardinals drop to 10-7 overall, 3-3 in the Landmark Conference.
A strong Susquehanna defense held all Catholic players to single digits, including sophomore guard/forward Brianna Peterson (Garnerville, N.Y./North Rockland), the country's leading scorer, who put up nine points to lead the Cardinals.
Catholic sophomore guard/forward Jenn Canale (Valley Cottage, N.Y./Albertus Magnus) hit a jumper to knot the game for the fourth time in less than seven minutes of play in the first half before the Crusaders hit a pair of free throws. Susquehanna never looked back.
SU led by as many as 20 points in the first half with a layup with 1 minute, 19 seconds of play remaining. They held a commanding 44-25 advantage at the break.
The Crusaders wasted no time in the second half, as four players assisted in throwing down 10 unanswered points before the Cardinals managed their first points of the half with 16:18 remaining on the clock. The visitors came within 21 points with under six minutes of play lingering; however, the game was too far gone for a Cardinals comeback.
The Cardinals will look to bounce back Saturday with a 2 p.m., contest at Juniata.
