Catholic Crushes Drew University 77-62
MADISON, N.J.- CUA's women's basketball team earned a decisive 77-62 victory over the Rangers of Drew University Friday night. With the win, the Cards improve to 9-4 on the year.
The visiting Cardinals took a hefty 39-24 lead in the break as a combination of Ranger turnovers and Brianna Peterson put Drew in the hole. Peterson finished the half with 16. Her six early points helped the guests build an 8-0 lead after four minutes before the Rangers clawed back to within five on Ann Mularz's bucket with just under ten to play. Peterson sparked another Cardinal run as she scored the next seven points in the game.
Drew went on a 15-4 run in the middle of the second period that helped them pull to within five points. The Rangers trailed 48-32 with 13 minutes left before the Rangers began their run.
The Cardinals would quickly rebuild their lead to 14 in next three minutes and this time Drew was unable to make up the ground. The lead ballooned to twenty before some late Drew buckets brought it to the final 15 point spread.
Peterson led the Cardinals with 26 points and five rebounds. CUA's Jessica Schiavoni chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds, while teammate Kate Robinson added 8 points, five rebounds, and six steals.
The Cards head to USMMA Saturday, January 10th for a road game at 2 p.m.
